As a council, we have a moral duty to support and enable communities to benefit from renewable energy and sustainability. It’s for this reason that we launched our very own grants fund to support local groups with their energy projects. Our Bristol Community Energy Fund has been running since 2015 and has provided funding to over 30 local groups.

The range of projects has been incredible so far and we’re continually amazed at the innovative funding bids that we receive. For a look at the projects we’ve helped or to apply for funding, please visit the Bristol Community Energy Website.

The SONNET Project

The Bristol City Lab is looking to address the issue of poor energy efficiency in community buildings across the city. In the past, these buildings have often been left until last to receive vital energy efficiency upgrades which has the potential to have an impact on its users.

Our Social Innovation in Energy Transitions (SONNET) project is supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme and is currently exploring the feasibility of crowdfunding as a means of raising capital to install energy efficiency measures within community buildings.

We are currently conducting surveys for building managers and citizens and the SONNET surveys privacy notice can be found here.
